Exterior of RowallanRowallan, Mountain Cross, by West Linton

Mountain Cross is a small village on the A701 (Moffat to Edinburgh) and Caroline Cottam has offered guests bed and breakfast in the 3 rooms (the house is a bungalow so there are no internal stairs) since 1980.

People come here for all sorts of reasons. Visiting Edinburgh (particularly in August with the Festivals, the Tattoo and the Fringe), and we are handy for the park and ride at Straiton. Edinburgh Airport is about 35 minutes from here round the Edinburgh City bypass.

Or touring the Borders. We're near Dawyck Gardens and Roslin Chapel, but also a good base for the Border Abbeys.

Walkers and golfers will find plenty to keep them occupied, as will mountain bikers visiting the 7Stanes at Glentress or Innerleithen.

Closer to home are Netherurd House and Castle Craig. 5 minutes away in West Linton you will find a café, restaurants (also in Carlops a little further away) and shops.

But just looking out from our guest lounge (that's the view at the top of the page) you can see Roman terraces and the hill fort at Henderland; and a wide variety of birds.

Caroline looks forward to welcoming you soon, whatever your reason to stay! (And you won't need to worry about the car parking, there's plenty of it, off the road). We are very keen gardeners and usually have a good show of flowers as well as vegetables in the back garden.
